Error messages

On a TI calculator you can get error messages.

 


Examples 1

To enter 1 ÷ 0

ERR:DIVIDE BY 0
1:Quit
2:Goto

1 ÷ 0 ENTER

or 0 ÷ 0

ERR:DIVIDE BY 0
1:Quit
2:Goto

0 ÷ 0 ENTER

or 0−1

  ERR:DIVIDE BY 0
1:Quit
2:Goto

0 x⁻¹ ENTER
 

Dividing by zero always produces a message.

 


Example 2

To enter 00

ERR:DOMAIN
1:Quit
2:Goto

0 0 ENTER

although it is determined by definition that 00 ≝ 1. Take that as a warning.

 


Example 3

To enter −2

        I   ERR:NONREAL ANS
1:
Quit
2:Goto

SHIFT x² (–) 2 ENTER

The square root from a negative number always gives a message.

 


Example 4

To enter 2 (−) 1

  ERR:SYNTAX
1:Quit
2:Goto

2 (–) 1 ENTER

A minus sign cannot be used to subtract.
